Preparing for your Board and Train with Up N Atom Dog Training
Thank you for choosing us for your dog training needs. We look forward to a long term relationship with you and your dog, built on trust and getting you the results you are looking for. Here is some important information for you to help you prepare.
Required Vaccinations
We require all dogs be up to date on vaccinations prior to beginning their board and train program. For puppies, this means they need to be up to date for their age (distemper/parvo and bordetella). We also recommend a fecal examination test for all puppies under six months of age.
-
Rabies 1 or 3-yr. vaccine required for all dogs/puppies over 6 months of age
- Distemper/Parvo
- Bordetella (kennel cough)
- We do NOT require Lepto or Influenza, but recommend speaking with your vet to consider.
Vaccine records can be text to 937-871-3594 or emailed to info@unadogs.com
Our training location is on acreage, and your dog will be field-tripping to new outdoor areas. PLEASE HAVE YOUR DOG UP-TO-DATE ON FLEA AND TICK PREVENTION. Failure to do so may result in us treating your dog at a veterinarian, at your expense, should they acquire fleas or ticks.
Belongings
Please pack the following items for your dog.
- Enough of their regular diet to last the entire stay. We can accommodate food that needs to be frozen or refrigerated. We recommend packing extra food, in case we want to up your dogs meals due to increased exercise. Please do not pack food into individual meals, as we often use food for training sessions.
- Treats: Bil Jac frozen food, Red Barn meat rolls, Vital Fresh Pet, or similar meal replacement food.
- For dogs over 25lbs, please bring approximately 5lbs of treats per 2 weeks of training.
- For dogs under 25lbs, approximately 5lbs is appropriate for the entire stay.
- Vaccine records
While not required, you may bring personal items such as a blanket/dog bed, bully sticks, non-rawhide chews, nylabones, and dental treats. By providing bedding, you assume full responsibility should your dog decide to ingest any of their bed during their stay. Dogs who chew on their bedding will have it removed.
While we do our best to keep all items organized, dogs may destroy items or they may become lost during their stay. If you love it, please do not bring it.
Please, no tennis balls, rope toys, stuffed animals, or other items that may be destroyed or ingested.
We utilize vari kennels, ruffland kennels, KBC kennels, and other secure forms of containment for sleeping and downtime. We ask that you do not bring a crate unless it has been approved by a trainer for separation anxiety, travel training, etc.
Refrain from overpacking. We will utilize our own bowls and water buckets; if your dog utilizes a slow feeder, let us know as we have them on hand.
Grooming Requirements
Our company does not have a groomer on staff. All long coated dogs should be groomed prior to drop off. Doodles and other tight-coated breeds need to be cut no longer than 2″ in length and need to be mat-free at drop off. Any dog that is dropped off unkempt will be sent to a groomer to be shaved, at the owners expense (and you may not love the cut done… so please, don’t let it come to that!). Dogs who require brushing should be dropped off with a slicker brush and, preferably, detangling spray. While we do everything in our power to keep dogs coats in good shape, your dog will be around other dogs, will get wet, and may end up with some tangling. Please, please, please groom your dog prior to drop off — including a nail trim.
All training dogs will receive a bath, brush, and blow out before returning home.
Part Way Lessons/Visits
We may recommend part way lessons and visitation. Your dog trainer will let you know if they do not feel these will benefit your dog. These lessons are done at your trainers discretion, and are not required. If recommended, no visits will take place earlier than 7-10 days into the training program.
Training Updates and Communication
You will receive a link to a Google Drive that will contain video and photo updates of your dog throughout the program. We welcome questions and comments, but ask that you be respectful of your dog trainers time. Texts and emails received after business hours will be returned at your trainers convenience the next business day. Please refrain from calling for updates, as we are busy training and caring for dogs. Each call takes valuable time away from the dogs.
Training Equipment
Your dog will be sent home with the following equipment*:
Puppies: Long line, place cot
Adult dogs: Ecollar, leash, place cot
Behavior modification dogs may be sent home with a muzzle if your trainer recommends one.
You will need a crate and a training pouch at home. If your trainer recommends a bark collar, you can purchase one HERE.
* Ala carte training programs do not include any training equipment.
Graduation Lesson
Your graduation lesson is an incredibly important one. We would prefer as much as the family be there to partake as possible, as well as anyone who will be regularly handling your dog. Schedule your drop off and pick up days on the best day of the week for everyone to attend. We recommend writing down specific questions or concerns to go over during the lesson, so you are well-prepared. Please be sure to watch all of your Google Drive videos and read over homework carefully prior to the lesson, so we can focus on the important training concepts.
If you have any questions, feel free to reach out via text or email and we will get back to you as soon as possible. We are looking forward to working with you and your dog. See you soon!
